Korea - South: Smoking Banned in Restaurants from Today

Starting today life just got a little tougher for smokers in Korea.

Smoking is now prohibited in bars and restaurants nationwide.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare says smoking in government offices, child and youth facilities, parks and parking lots will also be banned in addition to already-designated non-smoking areas.

The ban comes 18 months after the revision of the National Health Law in June last year.

Violators will not be punished during a six-month grace period that is in effect until everyone is fully aware of the new anti-smoking policy.

The tougher law also requires smoking zones to be replaced by enclosed smoking rooms. Enditem
