South Africa to Ban Menthol Cigarettes

It has been reported that the government of South Australia is just one step close to imposing a ban on the trade of menthol cigarettes. The youngsters are believed to be vulnerable to falling into the traps of menthol cigarettes. The menthol cigarettes have a small capsule located in the filter of cigarettes. When inhaled, the capsules burst menthol flavor in the mouth of the consumers. Three brands have launched the menthol cigarette products in the markets of South Australia. While condemning the menthol cigarettes, the Health Minister, John Hill said, “This new product has a futuristic, modern design and packaging and is being targeted at the youth market”. John Hill is of the view that the menthol cigarettes will encourage people to smoke. Smoking is hazardous for health. People in the habit if smoking is prone of being affected with life threatening diseases like liver diseases, heart attacks and cancers. The ban over the trade and advertisement of menthol cigarettes is being imposed keeping in mind the health safety of the public. By 2015, the government will be bringing in stricter regulation for the cigarettes and tobacco manufacturers so that a control over the distribution and its advertisement could be maintained. Enditem
