Canada goes More Graphic

New, bigger graphic health warnings will become the only show in Canada from tomorrow, according to a Canada NewsWire story. The new warnings, which were announced by Health Canada in September, have been phased into stores throughout the spring. But, as of tomorrow, retailers may only sell cigarettes and little cigars in packaging that displays the new warnings. The new warnings cover 75 per cent of the front and back of packs, up from 50 per cent previously. Some include messages from people whose lives and health have been negatively affected by tobacco use, and some concern diseases only recently linked to smoking. Information presented on the inside of packs outline the benefits of quitting and each warning includes a toll-free quit-line number and a web address where smokers can obtain free counselling and other quit smoking resources.Enditem
