20 Laid off at Former Lorillard Plant in Greensboro

ITG Brands, the company that bought Lorillard's cigarette production plant last year, laid off 20 salaried employees Friday, a company spokesman said in an emailed statement, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

Each employee has been offered a severance package that includes extended pay, a stipend for health care coverage, and outplacement services, the statement said.

ITG Brands said last month that it would lay off workers this year as its contracts to produce brands for Reynolds American ended as part of its merger agreement. ITG, the U.S. division of Imperial Tobacco Group, bought Lorillard's East Market Street plant in the $27.4 billion merger of Reynolds American and Lorillard.

As part of the deal, ITG acquired the Winston, Salem, Kool, and Maverick cigarette brands from Reynolds, which kept Lorillard 's Newport menthol brand. Enditem
