Altria Helps Bring Worldwide Racing Event to its Hometown

The wheels are in motion for a historic cycling event, and Altria is a proud founding partner. The Richmond 2015 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Championships is set for September 19-27, 2015.

Throughout the race's nine days, 1,000 cyclists representing more than 70 countries will compete in championship races. Richmond expects 450,000 spectators, with another 30 million tuning in on television. The World Championships is expected to inject $158 million into Virginia's economy, which will help make our community stronger.

Altria's investment in the UCI Road World Championships goes beyond our financial sponsorship. "When we decide to support an important initiative, we look beyond just writing a check," said Charlie Agee, Director, Corporate Contributions & Community Relations for Altria Client Services. "Hundreds of our employees have volunteered to help beautify and prepare Richmond for the race world's stage. Enhancements like these will make a difference in our city long after the racers and fans leave town."

Pascal Fernandez, Senior Vice President, Consumer & Marketplace Insights at Altria Client Services, brings his passion for cycling and the community as a member of the Richmond 2015, Inc. Board of Directors. "Hosting the UCI Road World Championships is spectacular for our community. As cyclists and fans travel to our city from around the globe, we have the opportunity to showcase Richmond's energy, enthusiasm and openness to the world," said Fernandez. "Altria's commitment was a key part of making this all happen. I'm proud to be a part of that."

Altria's involvement in the UCI Road World Championships is one of the many ways we invest in our communities. Recently Altria brought an exhibit featuring renowned artists Van Gogh, Manet and Matisse to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. In 2012, Altria committed $10 million to support the renovation of a historic, local theater, now known as the Altria Theater. From art exhibits to bike races, we fund initiatives that make our hometown a better place to live, work and play. Enditem
