Malawi, Egypt Partner in Cigarette Manufacturing Plant Source from: APA 06/05/2015 ![]() Egypt Eastern Tobacco Company has partnered with Auction Holdings Limited (AHL) Group to set up a $20 million cigarette manufacturing plant to be situated in the capital Lilongwe.Egyptian Company's Chairperson, Nabil Abdelaziz said Thursday that his company is impressed with the Malawi burley tobacco which is mostly of good quality for making cigarettes. "There is a ready market for cigarette sticks in Egypt from the factory which is yet to be established because the country requires a huge number of sticks for consumption," he said. AHL Chief Executive Officer, Evans Matabwa said the development is an important milestone to both local and global tobacco industries. "The cigarette manufacturing plant will provide significant gains to Malawians farmers and the economy," he said. He added that the new factory will create jobs thereby reduce the rate of unemployment in the country. However, the project is estimated to be completed within 18 months. Enditem |
