<strong>China: HongyunHonghe Maintains Title As Model Collective in Poverty Alleviation</strong>

HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province – the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer – has once again won the title of honor as a national-level model collective in social poverty alleviation granted by the State Council's Leading Group for Poverty Alleviation and Development.

HongyunHonghe has been actively in fulfilling its social responsibility, thus setting up a fine image in society. Since 2005, HongyunHonghe has been fulfilling the task of extending one-on-one assistance and support to poverty-stricken populations in Zhenkang County, Funing County and Cangyuan County in implementation of the government policy of "making frontier regions prosperous and enriching the local population". And, since 2007, it has been fulfilling the task of extending one-on-one assistance and support to poverty-stricken populations in Huize County, Qiajia County and Shangrila County.

For seven consecutive years, HongyunHonghe has been rated as a model unit in poverty alleviation in Yunnan Province. HongyunHonghe has frequently won the title of honor as a model collective in "making frontier regions prosperous and enriching the local population". It has been listed as a social responsibility enterprise in Yunnan Province. In 2011, HongyunHonghe was granted the title of honor as a national-level model unit in social poverty alleviation and a provincial-level model unit in social poverty alleviation for the 2006-2010 five-year period.

From 2005 to 2014, HongyunHonghe extended 140 million yuan (23 million U.S. dollars) in funds for poverty alleviation in the six counties under its assistance and support, which have mainly been used for executing a series of projects for improving the people's livelihood concerning economic and social development and development of the cause of education in the relevant frontier regions and hinterland regions, including projects of building irrigation systems for drinking water supply for both local residents and animals, building schools under the Hope Project educational assistance program, assisting teaching, granting scholarships to students, building creational rooms for local Communist Party members, conducting industrial development, building the new socialist countryside, etc, in striving to promote the capacity of the regions under its assistance and support to realize self accumulation, self-development and sustainable development.
