BAT Malta ''Dismisses'' 15 Employees Source from: Malta Independent 05/23/2014 ![]() British American Tobacco (Malta) has dismissed fifteen employees, three different sources have told this paper. BAT Malta is a successor to the Central Cigarette Company, which closed down in 2007. Its premises are based in Qormi. When contacted by The Malta Independent, a BAT Malta official did not deny that the workers had been dismissed. He explained, however, that British American Tobacco (Malta) Limited has reviewed its operating model with the intention of strengthening its competitive position in the Maltese market and entering into a relationship with a local reputable company, Salvo Grima Group. "This business change is expected to expand Salvo Grima's Group operations in Malta and further strengthen BAT's position and to secure long term investment within Malta. Detailed engagement with Salvo Grima has been initiated and is expected to be finalised by October. Please appreciate that this process is not yet fully finalised and no further details are formalised and available at this point in time."
