Kenya: Firm Refuses to Be Smoked Out of Migori

THE Mastermind Tobacco Kenya has said it still has presence in Migori district even after the county goverment kicked it out. Francis Kimani, the MTK national Leaf operational manager, said the company has started buying tobacco leaves from farmers in the county.

"As far as Mastermind is concerned we are registered company in the country and we are still in business," he said. Kimani said the Migori county government has not written to Mastermind to communicate the decision to kick them out.

Last week Deputy Governor Mwita Mahanga said Mastermind had been instructed to stop its operations in the county for failling to negotiate better trade terms with the county government.

"Any tobacco farmer doing business with the company will be doing so at his own risk as the county governmet wishes to engage with genuine investors," he said. Enditem
