Kenya: Mastermind Tobacco ''Smoked Out'' of Migori

MIGORI county has kicked out Mastermind Tobacco company for low payment to farmers. It is now negotiating with British American Tobacco and Alliance One for a better deal.

Deputy governor Mwita Mahanga said after several stakeholders meetings it was decided that Mastermind should not conduct business in the county.

"Any tobacco farmer doing business with the company will be doing so at their own risk as the county wishes to engage with genuine investors not hawkers," Mahanga said in a press statement.

Tobacco trading in the county is suspended as the county, BAT and Alliance One negotiate for an increase of payment from the current Sh170 per kilo to over Sh200. Enditem
