UK: Imperial Tobacco to Move into New HQ

Bristol-headquartered Imperial Tobacco is to move into its new base in the city tomorrow (Friday).

Construction work has now been completed on the 110,000 sq ft base at Winterstoke Road and the tobacco giant is to relocate this week.

The new base brings together three offices and about 550 members of staff. Practical completion of the scheme was completed at the end of April.

Planning permission has also been secured for the second phase of the development which would add a further 56,000 sq ft which would take its total office space to 166,000 sq ft.

The work has been completed by the Bristol office of BAM Construction. Other businesses involved in the development include Bristol-based development advisors Eagle Land, project manager CBRE and property adviser Burston Cook.

The property was designed by AWW Architects, WA Fairhurst & Partners (structural and civil engineers) and Hoare Lea and Partners (services engineers).

Imperial Tobacco first announced the plans for its new headquarters in 2010.

David Burston of Burston Cook said: "This important office development, the largest seen in Bristol in recent years, by Imperial secures local employment in South Bristol and is an important boost to the historic siting of the group's headquarters in the city.

"This is after careful consideration given to its location after a Europe wide search."

Earlier this week it was announced Imperial Tobacco's previous base has been sold to Bristol City Council to be redeveloped into a school. Enditem
