Tanzania: Tobacco Firm Donates Textbooks

THE British tobacco manufacturer, Imperial Tobacco, has donated textbooks and sports gear worth 11,778,720/- to a secondary school in Urambo District, Tabora Region.

The company representative, Mr Warwick Evans, presented chemistry, physics, biology and English textbooks at Vumilia Secondary School.

Mr Evans told the audience at the ceremony that included students, teachers and local government officials, that it was in the company's interest that the children in this tobacco farming area got a good education.

He said good education would give students the choice on whether to become good farmers or follow other options in life. The donation has come in response to a request from villagers at Vumilia Ward, Urambo District, who had asked for help in improving the secondary school they built through self-help. Enditem
