China: Shanghai Tobacco Group Inaugurates New Production Line for Chunghwa

Shanghai Tobacco Group – a leading Chinese tobacco manufacturer based in east China's Shanghai City – held a grand ceremony on November 26 to inaugurate the entry into operation of the exclusive line for producing cigarettes of its time-honored Chunghwa brand, upon completion of its construction over the past four ayears.

In an address delivered at the ceremony, Deputy Director-General Li Keming of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) pointed out that Chunghwa brand is a classic cigarette brand of China's tobacco industry and that the construction of the exclusive line for producing Chunghwa brand cigarettes has emerged as a classic project of technological transformation of the national tobacco industry.

The exclusive line for producing Chunghwa brand cigarettes, in the processes of designing and construction, realized systematic designing, fine processing, smart control and flexible production, contributing to laying a solid foundation for the development of the Chunghwa brand family.

The project of construction of the exclusive line for producing Chunghwa brand cigarettes was started on November 26, 2008. On November 26, 2011, the exclusive line was put into trial operation. After entry into operation, the annual cigarette production capacity of the exclusive line will have reached 50 billion cigarettes.

A top leader of Shanghai Tobacco Group said that the tobacco group will take the entry into operation of the exclusive line as a fine opportunity to further promote its manufacturing capacity, scientific-technological research capacity and cohesive force, in striving to turn Chunghwa into a most competitive and most valuable classic brand of China's tobacco industry.

After the ceremony, STMA leaders including Li Keming and Zhang Baozhen, together with other participants, visited the exclusive line for producing Chunghwa brand cigarettes. Enditem
