Serbia: JTI Expands Production in Senta Factory

Serbia's Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic attended the official launch of a new machine for quick tobacco drying in the factory owned by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in Senta.

Dinkic said that the machine will increase the capacity for preparing and drying tobacco by 20% and added that this year's investment of JTI in Serbia amounted to $40 million. The Minister said that the investment will contribute to further employment in the production of tobacco and cigarettes, and recalled that 600 workers of the factory, including employees in Senta and Belgrade and subcontractors, have secure incomes. He said that since it overtook Duvanska Industrija Senta, JTI has invested over $140 million in Serbia, modernised production plants, launched the production of cigarettes and started exports in Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, Croatia and Albania and export of tobacco in the EU.
