Malaysia: BAT Announces 20 sen Increase on Cigarette Prices

British American Tobacco Malaysia (BAT Malaysia) has announced a 20 sen increase on the prices of all its cigarette packs effective Monday, Oct 22, 2012. "We were officially informed by the Royal Malaysian Customs on Thursday, Oct 18, 2012, of a mandated uplift in the ex-factory pricing of our cigarettes of between 26 per cent to 58 per cent effective Friday, Oct 19, 2012.

"The consequence is that excise and sales tax payable has increased," said William Toh, Managing Director, BAT Malaysia, in a statement.
