China: Hongta Group Holds Symposium On Growing Of Non-tobacco Organic Crops

Hongta Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held a symposium at its Yuxi Tobacco Farmstead on September 17 on the growing of non-tobacco organic crops, in accordance with the general planning and general requirements for the development of the tobacco farmstead, and with a view to further highlighting diversity of crop growing, with the production of organic leaf tobacco as the core business.
The symposium was organized by the Material Supply Procurement Center of Hongta Group. Hongta Group Deputy CEO Zhang Jianhua attended the meeting and delivered a speech at it.

In light of the development of organic agriculture by Hongta Group, Zhang emphasized the following points in his speech:
Firstly, sufficient investigation and research shall be conducted, and regulation shall be strengthened.
Secondly, there shall be higher standards and stricter requirements, to ensure safety of organic products.
Thirdly, there shall be bold practice and innovation, and efforts shall be made to improve the system of quality tracing.
And fourthly, multiple approaches shall be adopted to increase the value added of non-tobacco organic crops, strive to expand channels for increasing the income of farmers, and establish a harmonious tobacco-producing area.
At the meeting, a leader in charge of the project of producing organic leaf tobacco explained the general working guidelines and the general situation of the planning for growing the 2,700 mu (180 hectares) of non-tobacco organic crops at the Fengwoyuan Park in Yuxi Tobacco Farmstead in 2013.
The meeting was attended by leaders from the relevant institutions including Yunnan Agricultural University, Yuxi City Administration of Agriculture, local administrative departments and specialized cooperatives as well as the staff of the organic leaf tobacco working taskforce. Enditem
