China: Hongta Group Wins First Place among Top 100 Enterprises in Yunnan

Hongta Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province – a leading Chinese tobacco manufacturer – is on top of the list of the Top 100 enterprises in Yunnan for the year 2012, on the basis of ratings conducted by Yunnan Provincial Confederation of Enterprises and Yunnan Provincial Entrepreneurs Association recently. The threshold for rankings among the Top enterprises in Yunnan for the year 2012 was 1.03328 billion yuan (164 million U.S. dollars), up 21 percent over the previous year, which signifies that all the enterprises on the list had their annual amount of business income exceeding 1 billion yuan (159 million U.S. dollars) in 2012. In particular, there were 17 enterprises among the Top 100 with their annual business income each exceeding 10 billion yuan (1.59 billion yuan), more than quadrupling the level of the Top 100 for 2005 – the first year of ratings of the Top 100. It was reported that the ratings of the Top 100 enterprises in Yunnan for the year 2012 were conducted in accordance with international conventions and the rules for ratings of the Top 500 Chinese enterprises, on the basis of applications filed by enterprises, in reference to the principle of recommendation by authoritative agencies, and with the size of business income earned by enterprises in 2011 as the core index. Data of the ratings indicate that the Top 100 enterprises in Yunnan all saw their scope of business keep enlarging and their capacity keep strengthening. The aggregate business income of the Top 100 reached 790.4 billion yuan (125.5 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011, up 20.56 percent over the previous year, showing a favorable trend of robust growth.
