JT's Volume Down in July Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/13/2012 ![]() Japan Tobacco Inc's domestic cigarette sales volume during July, at 10.2 billion, was down by 18.5 per cent on its July 2011 volume, 12.5 billion, which itself was down by 3.0 per cent on that of July 2010, according to preliminary figures issued by the company today.
Volume during the four months, April-July, at 39.5 billion, was up by 28.0 per cent on its April-July 2011 volume, 30.9 billion, which itself was down by 36.8 per cent on that of April-July 2010.
JT's market share for April-July 2012 was 59.4 per cent, against 54.9 per cent for the full year to the end of March.
JT has suffered some huge volume swings in recent times because of an unprecedented, mainly tax-driven price hike on October 1, 2010, and the massive disruption caused to the company's manufacturing and distribution operations following the earthquake and tsunami of March 11 last year.
JT's domestic cigarette revenue during July, at ¥55.9 billion, was down by 18.8 per cent on its July 2011 revenue, ¥68.9 billion, which itself was up by 32.4 per cent on that of July 2010.
Revenue during April-July, at ¥217.7 billion, was up by 28.8 per cent on its revenue during April-July 2011, ¥169.0 billion, which itself was down by 14.6 per cent on that of April-July 2010. Enditem
