China: STMA Delegation Inspects HongyunHonghe

A high-level delegation from the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), led by Deputy Director-General Yang Peisen, inspected HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China’s tobacco-producing Yunnan Province – the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer – on July 26-27, fully affirming the work of HongyunHonghe in technological innovation and transformation, raw materials supply, cigarette production, etc. On the afternoon of July 26, the delegation particularly went to Yunyan Impression Farmstead in Shilin County to inspect tobacco production there. At the leaf tobacco greenhouse in the farmstead, Yang Peisen pointed out that as tobacco production and flower growing are two advantageous industries in Yunnan with local characteristics, combination between them will lead to the formation of a new industry, which will not only be in favor of the growth of income for agriculture, but will also cast favorable influence on the quality of raw materials of leaf tobacco and the aroma of flowers. If HongyunHonghe can realize the development of sufficient aroma in terms of both quality and quantity without the addition of essences and flavorings to enable its tobacco products to become pure natural products in the real sense, it will mean a major innovation of the tobacco industry in terms of raw materials and technologies, Yang Peisen said, adding that the project of Yunyan Impression Farmstead development should be taken as a conceptual, experimental and forward-looking subject, which requires in-depth research and input to make it applicable. On the morning of July 27, the delegation went to Honghe Cigarette Factory to inspect cigarette production at the factory, where Yang Peisen asked about the production and sales of Honghe brand cigarettes. After hearing reports, Yang Peisen pointed out that Honghe Cigarette Factory boasts a very good basis for technological innovation, and that the work of technological innovation is a core motive force driving development of the enterprise, which also requires unremitting efforts and endless work. Yang Peisen expressed the hope that HongyunHonghe will do a good job of organizing the construction of its technology center on the basis of its technological advantages, to develop technological strength with its own characteristics, and to lay a solid foundation for meeting development targets at higher levels.
