JT's Domestic June Volume up 10.7 Per cent

Japan Tobacco Inc's domestic cigarette sales volume during June, at 9.9 billion, was up by 10.7 per cent on its June 2011 volume, 8.9 billion, which itself was down by 27.1 per cent on that of June 2010, according to preliminary figures issued by the company today. Volume during the three months, April-June, at 29.4 billion, was up by 59.5 per cent on its April-June 2011 volume, 18.4 billion, which itself was down by 48.4 per cent on that of April-June 2010. JT has suffered some huge volume swings in recent times because of an unprecedented, mainly tax-driven price hike on October 1, 2010, and the massive disruption caused to the company's manufacturing and distribution operations following the earthquake and tsunami of March 11 last year. JT's domestic cigarette revenue during June, at ¥54.4 billion, was up by 11.6 per cent on its June 2011 revenue, ¥48.4 billion, which itself was down by 1.8 per cent on that of June 2010. Revenue during April-June, at ¥161.8 billion, was up by 61.3 per cent on its revenue during April-June 2011, ¥100.3 billion, which itself was down by 31.2 per cent on that of April-June 2010. JT's consolidated financial results are due to be published on July 30. Enditem
