Imperial Helps to Provide Chadian Villages with Water Source from: Tobacco Reporter 06/20/2012 ![]() Imperial Tobacco's business in Chad is supporting community projects across the country as the effects of climate change make water a scare resource, according to an Imperial note posted on its website.
The Imperial subsidiary, Manufacture de Cigarettes du Tchad (MCT), is helping to put in place deep water pumps in villages in the east of Chad.
The first was installed in Magarine and three more wells are currently being drilled to provide drinking water for remote settlements.
MCT is also supporting a project that helps former tobacco growers in the south of Chad to switch to a more suitable crop and cope with the country's changing environment.
"In the last five years, MCT has invested around £120,000 on improving communities," said Issouf Traore, Imperial's general manager in Chad.
"In a country where many live on less than £1 a day, we have a duty as a responsible business to support community projects."Enditem
