Ceremony Held to Kick off Relocation, Transformation of Cigarette Factory

A grand foundation-laying ceremony was held in Tianshui City of northwest China's Gansu Province on May 16 to kick off the costly project of relocation and technological transformation of Tianshui Cigarette Factory intended to significantly enlarge the cigarette factory's annual production capacity, with the participation of a number of dignitaries with the tobacco industry of China and local Communist Party and government officials. The dignitaries attending the ceremony included Director-General and Communist Party Committee Secretary Jiang Chengkang of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), General Manager Zhang Jianjun of China Tobacco Industry Development Center, Gansu Provincial Governor Liu Weiping, who doubles as Gansu Provincial Communist Party Committee secretary, Executive Deputy Provincial Governor Liu Yongfu, who doubles as a member of the Standing Committee of Gansu Provincial Communist Party Committee, Secretary-General Li Peiwen of Gansu Provincial Government, Tianshui City Communist Party Committee Secretary Ma Shizhong, Tianshui City Mayor Wang Rui, who doubles as Tianshui City Communist Party Committee deputy secretary, Tianshui City Government Secretary General Jiang Xiaoqiang, who doubles as a member of the Standing Committee of Tianshui City Communist Party Committee, and Tianshui City Deputy Mayor Lei Ming. The ceremony was presided over by General Manager Tian Cheng of Gansu Provincial Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. The project of relocation and technological transformation of Tianshui Cigarette Factory was registered and approved by the STMA in August 2011, with an approved total construction area of 108,400 square meters, and with a total investment of 1.315 billion yuan (209 million U.S. dollars). The new Tianshui Cigarette Factory will be located in Shetang Industrial Park of the national-level Tianshui Economic and Technological Development Zone, and will cover a floor space of 610,000 square meters. When the project of relocation and technological transformation is completed, Tianshui Cigarette Factory will see its annual cigarette production capacity and the amount of its annual taxes both double on the current basis, and the new cigarette factory is expected to play a very important role in promoting leap-forward scientific socioeconomic development of Tianshui City.
