Provincial Key Laboratory Successful in Making Research Achievements

Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Harmful Components and Tar Reduction in Cigarettes in southwest China's Sichuan Province was successful in making scientific-technological research achievements in 2011, further consolidating its advantaged status in the field of reduction of tar and other harmful substances in cigarette production by the tobacco industry of China. On March 23, Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Harmful Components and Tar Reduction in Cigarettes - affiliated to China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Co., Ltd. - held the 3rd session of its first academic committee, which confirmed that it made a number of scientific-technological research achievements in 2011 that were "advanced in the world" and that "took a lead in China". With researchers from China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Co., Ltd. as its leading human resources, Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Harmful Components and Tar Reduction in Cigarettes is the first provincial-level laboratory of China's tobacco industry passing local certification. In 2011, in accordance with the target of reducing the content of tar and other harmful substances in cigarette products, the laboratory made great efforts to conduct basic research and application research. In the year, it was granted 20 patents and new applied for 29 patents, including two international patents. It succeeded in converting its research achievements with independent intellectual property rights into productive forces, which have been applied in the production of serial cigarette products of the Pride brand family. In 2011, the laboratory undertook 23 scientific-technological research projects at the national level, provincial level or post-doctoral level. In particular, it completed the project of "research of technologies for selective reduction of harmful substances and application in products", which has passed certification. Besides, it also completed the project of research of technologies for "composition and characterization of a type of modified silicon-based mesoporous materials applied for reducing the content of tar and other harmful substances in cigarettes". The scientific-technological research achievements made by the laboratory have been well recognized by the tobacco industry of China. In 2011, the project of "research of the relationship between technological parameters in key procedures of cigarette processing and the quantity of emission of seven types of harmful components and tar in cigarette smoke" and the project of "research of impacts of parameters of support cigarette materials on Hoffmann analyte in mainstream cigarette smoke" undertaken by the laboratory respectively won a Grade Two prize for scientific-technological progress and a Grade-Three prize for scientific-technological progress awarded by China National Tobacco Corporation.
