China: Provincial Corporation, Philip Morris Meet on Technological Exchange

Hunan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation in south central China's Hunan Province and Philip Morris International recently held in Hunan's provincial capital city of Changsha a summative and technological symposium on execution in 2011 of the project of research and development of raw materials of flue-cured tobacco for making Marlboro cigarettes in China. The theme of the meeting was to strengthen technological exchange and cooperation with Philip Morris International, promote leaf tobacco raw materials development and research by Hunan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation to higher levels, improve the quality of leaf tobacco produced at exclusive production bases, and break the bottleneck of poor usability of upper tobacco leaves, in realizing localization of flue-cured tobacco for producing Marlboro cigarettes in China. The meeting made a full-scale summarization of the achievements and also problems existing in the execution of the project of research and development of raw materials of flue-cured tobacco for making Marlboro cigarettes in China in the year 2011, and the general planning for research and development in execution of the project in the year 2012. Philip Morris International highly commented on the work of the taskforce designated to execute the project in 2011, and believed the quality of leaf tobacco developed under the project was obviously improved, with remarkable improvement of the quality of usability of upper tobacco leaves.
