JT's Domestic Sales Nudge Upwards in February

According to a preliminary report, Japan Tobacco Inc's domestic cigarette sales volume during February, at 8.8 billion, was 0.3 per cent higher than it was in February 2011. But this has to be seen against a background where the company's February 2011 volume was down by 19.0 per cent on that of February 2010. The company's April 2011 to February 2012 sales volume, at 98.3 billion, was down by 20.8 per cent on that of April 2010 to February 2011, which itself was down by 10.6 per cent on that of April 2009 to February 2010. Domestic net sales during February, at ¥49.1 billion, were up by 0.2 per cent on those of February 2011, which, in turn, were up by 10.4 per cent on those of February 2010. Net sales during the period April 2011 to February 2012, at ¥540.9 billion, were down by 3.3 per cent on those of April 2010 to February 2011, which were down by 0.7 per cent on those of April 2009 to February 2010. JT's domestic cigarette market share was 58.7 per cent during February, 54.4 per cent between April 2011 and February 2012, and 64.1 per cent for the full year ended March 2011. Enditem
