China: Shanghai Tobacco Group Starts Revision of Warning Signs on Cigarette Packets

Shanghai Tobacco Group - a leading Chinese tobacco manufacturer - has recently started the process of revision of warning signs against cigarette smoking on the packets of its cigarette products for the year 2012, in compliance with the requirement of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, to which China is a signatory country. The revision of warning signs this time will involve 15 specifications of five brands - Chunghwa, the Red Double Happiness, Peony, Daqianmen and Memphis, and will mainly cover the tearing tape on both the packet and the carton. Besides the tearing tape on the packet and the carton, the tipping paper on cigarettes of Chunghwa 5000 and the Red Double Happiness (Baishun) will also undergo revision of warning signs, while the soft cardboard boxes, filter rods and cigarette paper of Peony brand cigarettes will also undergo a change of specification. The revision of warning signs this time will be completed within the first quarter of the year. So far, Beijing Cigarette Factory - a subsidiary of Shanghai Tobacco Group - has completed the process of designing the first standard format of cigarette trademarks for the year 2012. According to its planning, Beijing Cigarette Factory will complete revision of the trademark signs on all specifications of its cigarette products by April 1. Recently, Tianjin Cigarette Factory - also a subsidiary of Shanghai Tobacco Group - has launched the process of changing the packaging of its cigarette products of six specifications of the Red Double Happiness, Daqianmen and Jiangshan brand families Hadestined to domestic markets in an orderly way.
