China: STMA Delegation Inspects Hongta Group

A delegation from the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), led by Deputy Director-General Yang Peisen, inspected Hongta Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province on February 22, hearing reports on production and operation, and giving instructions on innovation of tobacco science and technology by Hongta Group. Accompanied by Yu Yundong, director of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration, and Xie Kunhuo, deputy general manager of Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation, the delegation visited production facilities at Hongta Group and held talks with top leaders of the tobacco group, which is a leading tobacco manufacturer in China. During the inspection, Yang Peisen emphasized that Hongta Group needs to strengthen efforts for scientific-technological innovation, promote structural reform in a sustainable and in-depth way, and give priority to improving the structure of products, in order to realize the scope of production and influence that Hongta Group deserves as a large-sized tobacco manufacturer. Accompanied by Hongta Group leaders including CEO Li Suiming, the delegation particularly visited Yuxi Cigarette Factory of Hongta Group. In talks with Hongta Group leaders during the inspection, Yang Peisen said that Hongta Group enjoys advantages in raw materials, equipment, technology, brands and the marketing basis that tobacco manufacturing enterprises in other regions do not have. Yang expressed the hope that in future business development, Hongta Group will make breakthrough in key fields and key processes by means of technological innovation, in order that its scientific-technological research achievements can be converted into motive forces promoting development of production and competitive brands. Meanwhile, Hongta Group needs to promote its structural reform in an in-depth way, Yang said, adding that only through deepening of reform can problems encountered in the process of development be effectively solved. Speaking on the same occasion, Li Suiming reported to the delegation the situation of production and operation of Hongta Group, saying that in 2011, Hongta Group registered new headway in making breakthrough in the development of high-end cigarette products, and in developing new cigarette products with a low tar level, and realized relatively satisfactory growth in economic efficiency. In a next period of time, Hongta Group will give priority to making a shift of the mode of production and improving the structure of its products, in order to realize a shift from the pattern of efficiency based on scale onto the pattern of efficiency based on structure. Besides, Hongta Group will keep strengthening its scientific-technological innovation capacity and marketing capacity, make closer cooperation with commercial enterprises, strengthen the development of exclusive high-quality raw materials supply bases, guarantee the supply of high-quality raw materials for the production of high-quality cigarettes, strive to promote joint-venture production of cigarettes of competitive brands, and strengthen its capacity of international markets development.
