China: Government Delegation Inspects Sites for Building Key Projects of Tobacco Industry

A delegation of the government of Liangshan Prefecture in Xichang City of southwest China's Sichuan Province conducted on February 2 an on-site inspection of the sites in Liangshan Prefecture for the construction of Sichuan Tobacco Technology Center and Liangshan Modern Tobacco Storage and Logistics Scientific-Technological Park that will be started soon. The delegation was led by Long Wei, member of the Standing Committee of Liangshan Prefecture Communist Party Committee, secretary-general of Liangshan Prefecture Communist Party Committee and Liangshan Prefecture Federation of Trade Unions. The site for building Sichuan Tobacco Technology Center is located on the eastern extended traffic line of the southern avenue in Xichang City, covering a total area of 110 mu (7.3 hectares) in floor space. The construction area in the first phase of the project will be close to 50,000 square meters, with a total investment of about 500 million yuan (79 million U.S. dollars). So far, all formalities for official approval of the project have been basically completed, and the process of designing and tender invitation has been started. When its construction is completed, Sichuan Tobacco Technology Center will have met the requirements for qualification as a national-level tobacco technology laboratory. It will be capable contributing to further accelerating practical application of scientific-technological research achievements of the tobacco industry, increasing the rate of contribution by agricultural science and technology, and playing a support role in turning Sichuan into a powerful producer of both leaf tobacco and cigarettes. The site for building Liangshan Modern Tobacco Storage and Logistics Scientific-Technological Park is located at the Chengliang Industrial Park Zone in Xichang City. The construction of Liangshan Modern Tobacco Storage and Logistics Scientific-Technological Park is a priority project of Liangshan Prefecture for promoting development of the Anning River Valley in the 2011-2015 five-year period. So far, a cigarette distribution center has been built at the site. Presently, construction is underway to build 200,000 square meters of raw leaf tobacco storage facilities, 150,000 square meters of finished leaf tobacco storage facilities, 40,000 square meters of facilities of a tobacco technology promotion center and support facilities, which will enable Liangshan Modern Tobacco Storage and Logistics Scientific-Technological Park to become a first-rate tobacco storage logistics complex in China, a logistics pearl in southwest China, and a first-rate tobacco technology generalization center in China. During the inspection, Long Wei urged all departments concerned to closely cooperate with one another in the interest of fulfilling the project at an early date, and in striving for starting the construction of Liangshan Modern Tobacco Storage and Logistics Scientific-Technological Park within 2012.
