Call for Manufacturing Innovations to Reduce Risk Source from: Tobaccoreporter.com 01/20/2012 Innovations in the manufacture of tobacco products, including the reduction of tobacco-specific nitrosamines, are needed to reduce the health risks associated with tobacco use, according to a story in the latest issue of the BBM Bommidala Group newsletter quoting doctors speaking at the Conference of Frontiers in Prevention, Diagnosis and Therapy of Cancer held recently in India.
Such innovations were said to be especially necessary in the case of smokeless tobacco, though it wasn't clear from the report whether this emphasis on smokeless was being made because smokeless was thought to be especially risky or whether, as seems more likely, it was thought to have more potential for risk reduction.
This intervention seems timely because, in the recent past, there seems to have been a trend for the authorities in India to come down unilaterally against smokeless products.
The conference was held at the MLN Medical College, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Enditem
