Guangzhou Cigarette Factory - a new cigarette making enterprise incorporated on the basis of the merger of Production Departments No. 1 and No. 2 and Nanhai Production Department of Guangzhou Cigarette Factory No. 2 in south China's Guangdong Province - is to officially go into operation on January 1, 2012 after four years of construction that has been completed recently. Particularly designed for making Double Happiness brand cigarettes, it integrates cigarette production, research and development and distribution, with an annual cigarette production capacity of 1.5 million cases (75 billion cigarettes). It was reported that Guangzhou Cigarette Factory is a research and development, production and distribution center of Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation, with the annual production capacity and technological level both ranking among the top in China. It possesses the world's most advanced cigarette production equipment and modern distribution systems. It is also a model cigarette production base designated by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration "to follow up the world's advanced cigarette production development". Created in 1906, the Double Happiness is one of the few time-honored centennial cigarette brands of China. Guangzhou Cigarette Factory is capable of generating over 15 billion yuan (2.35 billion U.S. dollars) in annual taxes and profits. The entry into operation of Guangzhou Cigarette Factory will contribute to further strengthening the cigarette production and management capacity of Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation, contribute to increasing the annual production capacity of the Double Happiness to a high of 5 million cases (25 billion cigarettes), and also contribute to the technological transformation and upgrading of the tobacco industry of Guangdong.
