HongyunHonghe Signs Pacts on New Aid for Poverty Alleviation

HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province - the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer - signed on November 18 a package of agreements on the extension of extra aid for poverty alleviation with Zhenkang, Funing and Cangyuan Counties in the province for the next three years. Under the agreements, HongyunHonghe will extend an extra line of 24 million yuan (3.75 million U.S. dollars) in aid to Zhenkang County in Lincang Prefecture, Funing County in Wenshan Prefecture and Cangyuan County in Lincang Prefecture for infrastructure construction and tuition and teaching subsidization in the three counties over the next three years. The extra aid is part of the program of "revitalizing border areas and enriching local population" for the 2011-2015 five-year period launched by Yunnan Provincial Communist Party Committee and the provincial government of Yunnan. Since the provincial Communist Party Committee and the provincial government of Yunnan launched the program of "revitalizing border areas and enriching local population" in 2005, HongyunHonghe has already contributed 74 million yuan (11.5 million U.S. dollars) in poverty-alleviation aid under the program of "revitalizing border areas and enriching local population". Speaking at the signing ceremony, HongyunHonghe Communist Party Committee Secretary Xu Liwei said that in accordance with the planning of Yunnan Province for "revitalizing border areas and enriching local population" in the 2011-2015 five-year period, HongyunHonghe will extend the extra line of aid - 10 million yuan (1.5625 million U.S. dollars) for Zhenkang County, 6 million yuan (937,500 U.S. dollars) for Cangyang County and 8 million yuan (1.25 million U.S. dollars) for Funing County. So far, the poverty-alleviation aid extended by HongyunHonghe has mainly been used to improve irrigation projects for supplying drinking water for both local residents and their farm animals, improve village construction, assist school children in receiving education, industrial development, protection of cultural heritages with unique characteristics of local ethnic minority groups, etc in Yunnan - a remote frontier province.
