PMI Reduces Serbian Workforce by 30 Per Cent

Philip Morris International's Serbian subsidiary, Philip Morris Operations (PMO), recently cut its workforce by 30 per cent to 403, according to a Presscut Croatian Newsmonitor story. The company said the reduction had been necessary following a modernization program and a decline in demand for cigarettes due to smoking restrictions and higher taxes. PMI has reduced by about 83 per cent the number of employees it inherited when it acquired Duvanska Industrija Nis (the former name of PMO) in 2003. Enditem
