Reynolds American Foundation Donates $250,000 for North Carolina Hurricane Relief Source from: PR Newswire 09/01/2011 Reynolds American Inc. (NYSE:RAI - News) announced that the Reynolds American Foundation will donate $250,000 to the American Red Cross to help provide relief to victims of Hurricane Irene that hit North Carolina on August 27.
Seven eastern N.C. counties have been declared federal disaster areas. Damage estimates are still under way, but preliminary reports show that more than 1,100 homes were destroyed, with hundreds more damaged. The American Red Cross has deployed thousands of volunteers to help with recovery efforts, including staffing shelters and providing meals to the homeless.
"Our thoughts are with our fellow North Carolinians who are suffering as a result of this devastating storm," said Steve Strawsburg, president of the Reynolds American Foundation. "Our hope is that this donation will support immediate relief efforts in the storm's aftermath."
Additionally, the Foundation plans to match, dollar for dollar, any hurricane-relief contributions that employees of Reynolds American and its operating companies make to qualifying non-profit charitable public organizations, including the American Red Cross.
The Reynolds American Foundation is a non-profit corporation, established as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt private foundation, that administers certain charitable and educational giving programs on behalf of Reynolds American Inc., its operating companies and their employees.
