Toraño Family Opens its Vault

If you were to carefully thumb through the pages of the Toraño Family Cigar Company's tobacco journals, you'd come across an old blend called Liga A-008. It was composed of filler tobacco from the Estelí and Condega regions of Nicaragua, a Honduran binder from Jamastran and a shade-grown Nicaraguan colorado wrapper. When the blend was conceptualized eleven years ago, the Toraños thought it had potential, but was nevertheless missing something. Recently, company president Charlie Toraño revisited the blend and decided to amp up the power with tobacco previously unavailable to him. After adding some Nicaraguan Ometepe to the filler and a second ligero binder also from Ometepe, this stronger, updated version is now finalized and ready for official release. It has been dubbed Vault and was introduced at this summer's IPCPR trade show. According to Toraño, it's the strongest commercially available cigar in the company's history and is made at the Nestor Plasencia Factory in Nicaragua. Four sizes will be available, retailing in the $7.20 to $7.95 range: Robusto, 5 inches by 52 ring; Toro, 6 by 50; Torpedo, 6 1/8 by 52, and a limited-edition classic Corona Gorda measuring 5 5/8 by 46. The cigars should be on shelves in October, each with footbands reading A-008 to denote the blend's origin. More archived blends from the Vault are being considered for future releases. Enditem
