Provincial Tobacco Industry Gets Good Report Card on Foreign Trade Source from: TobaccoChina Online 07/18/2011 Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province got a good report card on foreign trade in its endeavor to develop international markets in the 2006-2010 five-year period, with its cigarette imports and exports amounting to 548 million U.S. dollars in the five years.
From 2006 to 2010, Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation exported 39.2 billion cigarettes (3.92 million cases), accounting for 24.5 percent of the total cigarette exports by the tobacco industry of China in the five-year period. As a result, Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation became the largest provincial-level cigarette exporter in China.
Hongta Group and HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group - the two tobacco-manufacturing enterprise groups of Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation - have emerged as leading players of China's tobacco industry in developing international markets. They have both developed in overseas markets a number of cigarette brands with certain famous and influence, and both have taken certain market shares overseas.
In the Middle East region, Hongta Group has completed the plan for the development of its leading brands and reservation of three leading cigarette products in markets in Iran. Presently, it is making preliminary preparation for the incorporation of a joint-venture enterprise there. It was reported that Hongta Group is striving to turn its Mount Hongtashan cigarette brand into a world-class cigarette brand of China's tobacco industry.
In the 2011-2015 five-year period, Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation will focus its energy on developing markets in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, East Europe, Central America, South America and Africa as well as duty-free shops around the world, and on developing Mount Hongtashan and Yunyan as two leading international brands, and seven others including Honghe and Ashima as leading regional brands.
Besides, it will strive to increase its annual cigarette exports to 25 billion cigarettes (500,000 cases), in efforts to turn itself into the largest provincial-level export-oriented tobacco manufacturer and cigarette exporter of China's tobacco industry, and to take the first place among China's tobacco industry in terms of the single-brand sales volume at international markets.
