Cigar company to Expand in Fort Lauderdale, Add 55 Jobs

Cigar company Altadis USA announced Monday that it will expand its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, adding 55 high-paying jobs. The additional jobs have an average salary of $62,448, or an average salary in excess of 150 percent of the local Broward County average wage. The 84 current Altadis USA employees are being retained, the company said in its announcement. Altadis is integrating the administrative functions of a related company, Commonwealth Brands, currently located in Bowling Green, Ky. Both companies are subsidiaries of United Kingdom-based Imperial Tobacco Group. The company will expand its existing office space at 5900 N. Andrews Ave. Altadis' expansion makes it eligible for a total of $625,000 in incentives from Florida and the City of Fort Lauderdale. Of that, $330,000 is from the state's tax refund program, along with $236,000 from the Governor's Quick Action Closing Fund and $59,000 from Fort Lauderdale.
