China: Chuanyu Exchanges Views With Transnational Tobacco Giants on Cigar Production

General Manager Wu Yinglu of China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Corporation - the operator of the tobacco industry in southwest China's Sichuan Province and neighboring Chongqing City - met with CEO Ad Wintermans of Royal Agio Cigars of The Netherlands and the China operations development director of Altadis USA of Imperial Tobacco respectively on April 25 and 26 to hold in-depth exchange of views on promoting cooperation in cigar production. In the exchange of views with both, Wu expressed the hope of China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Corporation to develop sincere cooperation with the two transnational tobacco giants in jointly promoting cigarette production in China, and turning the Great Wall cigar brand of the Chinese side into China's No. 1 cigar brand and a famous international cigar brand. Speaking on the same occasion, Wintermans expressed satisfaction over cooperation between Royal Agio Cigars and China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Corporation over the past three years, and expressed the hope of Royal Agio Cigars to further strengthen exchange and cooperation with the Chinese side in striving to present to the market products made in cooperation in realizing a win-win situation. Meanwhile, the China operations development director of Altadis USA said that it was much admirable that China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Corporation, in the wake of a devastating earthquake hitting southwest China on May 12, 2008, succeeded in establishing a cigar factory within a short period of time, and that Altadis USA would adopt a long-term perspective in keeping strengthening cooperation with the Chinese side. It was reported that China Tobacco Chuanyu Industrial Corporation, in accordance with the relevant requirement of the leadership of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, signed agreements on technological cooperation with Agio and Altadis respectively in February 2010 and April 2011. Under the agreement signed with Agio, the two sides have jointly developed six products of the Great Wall cigar brand, which were presented to the market at the end of 2010. Besides, four products of the Great Wall cigar brand produced in cooperation will be presented to markets in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong of China, Taiwan of China and other countries and regions in 2011.
