Golden Deer Realizes Relatively Sharp Sales Growth in Russia

Golden Deer - a famous blend-type, low-tar-level cigarette brand developed by Shanghai Tobacco Group in east China - has seen its sales on markets in Russia steadily grow over the past few months, as a result of intensification of efforts for sales promotion by the import-export arm of the tobacco group. In line with the business development guideline of "focusing on key points, increasing value and stabilizing the sales of Golden Deer" adopted by Shanghai Tobacco Group, the import-export arm has actively taken steps to promote the sales of Golden Deer recently, holding consultations with Japan Tobacco Inc. on cooperation in trademark license, determining the plan for the development of sales of Golden Deer on markets in Russia on the basis of discussion, and reaching a series of consensus focally on the definition of brands, images of packaging, market sales promotion, value of brands and sales channels. Over recent years, Golden Deer has become increasingly well-known and influential in markets in Russia. Since the beginning of 2011, the retail price of Golden Deer in markets in Russia has risen from 14 rubles (51 U.S. cents) per packet to 17 rubles (62 U.S. cents) per packet. In the first three months of 2011, the aggregate sales volume of Golden Deer in markets in Russia reached 51,500 boxes (515 million cigarettes), up 58 percent year-on-year, showing a favorable development trend. So far, the sales network of Golden Deer has covered 10,600 retail terminals in nearly 190 cities across Russia, with both the rate of exposure and the rate of market coverage further increasing.
