Malawi Government Delegation Visits HongyunHonghe

A six-member delegation of the Malawi government, led by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Peter Mwanza and Tobacco Control Commission CEO Bruce Munthali, visited HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province on April 22, holding talks with HongyunHonghe leaders on trade in leaf tobacco and burley.

Accompanied by Director Sun Yuzhi of the Foreign Affairs Department of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration and officials with the General Office of Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation, the delegation was received by HongyunHonghe Board of Directors Chairman Yao Qingyan and Communist Party Committee Deputy Secretary Dai Wei, and held talks with officials from HongyunHonghe’s materials supply procurement center, Communist Party affairs office, overseas business development department and other departments concerned. In receiving the Malawi delegation, Yao extended welcome to it on behalf of HongyunHonghe and briefed the guests on the general situation of HongyunHonghe, saying that HongyunHonghe wished to take advantage of the current visit by the Malawi delegation as an opportunity to sincerely exchange views and hold discussions with the Malawi side in strengthening and promoting the procurement of leaf tobacco raw materials for HongyunHonghe. Speaking on the same occasion, Mwanza briefed the hosts on the general situation of Malawi, saying that as an agricultural country in southern Africa, Malawi is the world’s largest burley producer, with leaf tobacco and burley among its major cash crops. Mwanza said that the current visit by his delegation was aimed at strengthening cooperation with such influential tobacco groups like Yunnan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation and HongyunHonghe, in order that leaf tobacco produced in Malawi could be promoted to China. He sincerely welcomed HongyunHonghe to invest in the establishment of leaf tobacco production bases in Malawi. Meanwhile, Munthali introduced to the audience the characteristics of burley produced in Malawi. Upon hearing the introduction, Yao said that leaf tobacco and burley produced in Malawi are of unique advantages and characteristics, and that cigarette brands of China’s tobacco industry have formed relatively stable smoking aromas and characteristics. If the Malawi government could realize cooperation with the tobacco industry of China, HongyunHonghe would like to get involved, Yao said. Enditem
