Altria Funds Help Tornado Relief Efforts Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/29/2011 Altria has reported that it and the Altria Companies Employee Community Fund are providing much-needed support to key non-profit organizations in Virginia and North Carolina to assist with relief efforts following the recent tornadoes and flash floods that hit the US East Coast.
"Altria's $500,000 annual grant to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program ensures that the Red Cross can respond immediately to the needs of individuals and families impacted by disasters in the US," it said in a press note posted on its website.
"Altria has designated $100,000 of this contribution to the Greater Richmond Chapter to provide aid to respond to local emergencies. This means that the Red Cross was able to provide immediate aid to all impacted states, including both Virginia and North Carolina."
"Altria is also making a $40,000 contribution to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina's Tornado Relief Initiative. As a leading food bank in North Carolina, this organization has surveyed the needs in the affected counties in the state and is pushing relief where it's needed."
"The Altria Companies Employee Community Fund, an employee-managed grant-making organization that has provided nearly 900 grants and donated more than $25 million to local community organizations since its inception, is making a $25,000 grant to the Red Cross' Greater Richmond Chapter, to be allocated to storm relief throughout Virginia."
