Cigarette Sales Down Steeply in Japan Source from: Tobacco Reporter 04/28/2011 In a preliminary report ahead of the release of its consolidated financial results on May 10, Japan Tobacco Inc has said that its cigarette sales during the 12 months to the end of March, at 134.6 billion, were down by 11.3 per cent on those during the 12 months to the end of March 2010, which themselves were down by 5.0 per cent.
Sales during the three months to the end of March, at 27.7 billion, were down by 19.3 per cent on those of the three months to the end of March 2010, which themselves were 5.1 per cent down.
Net cigarette sales during the 12 months to the end of March, at ¥616.9 billion, were down by 0.2 per cent, while net cigarette sales during the three months to the end of March, at ¥153.5 billion, were down by 10.0 per cent.
Meanwhile, according to a Mainichi Daily News story, overall cigarette sales in Japan during the 12 months to the end of March, at 210.2 billion, were down by 10.1 per cent. Enditem
