China: Siping Cigarette Factory Gets Good Report Card in First Quarter

Siping Cigarette Factory of Hunan Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation in south central China's Hunan Province got a good report on production, operation and marketing in the first quarter of 2011, by producing 2.5 billion cigarettes (50,000 cases) and paying 290 million yuan (44.2 million U.S. dollars) in taxes, a sharp increase of 42 percent and 44 percent respectively, ushering in a good beginning of a favorable trend of business development in the year. In accordance with its general planning and requirement for annual progress in business operation, Siping Cigarette Factory sped up the process of fulfilling its project of relocation and technological transformation in the first three months, with the balance of quality in cigarette production as a priority, with improvement of product quality and reduction of materials consumption as a core, and with the work of benchmarking as a carrier. As a result of rightful efforts, the cigarette factory performed well in both the fulfillment of the project of relocation and technological transformation, and the organization of production and operation. By April 8, it had completed the process of general designing, tender invitation and optimization for the project of relocation and technological transformation. In the first quarter, Siping Cigarette Factory did all it could to promote fulfillment of the project of relocation and technological transformation and to quicken its pace of development. Since the beginning of the year, the cigarette factory has held many executive meetings on the fulfillment of the project of relocation and technological transformation, with the focus on a number of exclusive subjects, to discuss the general designing and foundation-laying for the project, construction of the main structure of the project, choice of models of equipment, establishment of support facilities, early-stage preparation, etc, and to determine the procedures in the fulfillment of the project.
