Tobacco-Producing Province Unveils Development Plan for 2011-2015

The Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration in northwest China's tobacco-producing Shaanxi Province has recently unveiled its plan for the development of tobacco production in the province in the 2011-2015 five-year period, which provides for establishing a number of specialized tobacco-growing zones across the province in a structural reform. The plan stipulates that by the end of the 2011-2015 five-year period, Shaanxi Province will have established two tobacco-producing cities each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 300,000 dan (15,000 tons) or more, two tobacco-producing cities each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 200,000 dan (10,000 tons) or more, and also two tobacco-producing cities each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 100,000 dan (5,000 tons) or more. The plan also provides for the establishment of 10 large counties with units of tobacco production bases each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 50,000 dan (2,500 tons) or more, 10 counties with supplementary tobacco production bases with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 25,000 dan (1,250 tons) to 50,000 dan (2,500 tons), 200 townships with tobacco production bases each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 3,000 dan (150 tons) or more, and 1,000 specialized tobacco-producing villages each with an annual leaf tobacco production capacity of 1,000 dan (50 tons) or more.
