China Cigarette Factory Kicks Off Project of Relocation, Technological Transformation

Fuling Cigarette Factory of Chongqing Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. in southwest China's tobacco-producing Chongqing City kicked off on March 28 a two-year costly project of relocation and technological transformation at the factory's future 500-mu (33-hectare) new site in Lidu New Area of Chongqing City.

With a total investment of 1.3 billion yuan (198 million U.S. dollars), the project of relocation and technological transformation is scheduled to be completed in March 2013, and the new Fuling Cigarette Factory will have an annual cigarette production capacity of 400,000 cases (20 billion cigarettes), according to Zhang Ming, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Fuling District Committee. As a subsidiary wholly owned by Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation, which is the operator of the tobacco industry in Chongqing City and its neighboring Sichuan Province, Chongqing Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. has under it three cigarette factories - Chongqing, Fuling and Qianjiang Cigarette Factories. For Fuling Cigarette Factory, it was established in 1964. In 1982, it underwent structural reform to mainly shift onto the production of cigarettes of Tianzi, Longfengchengxiang, Hongsheng and other specifications of the competitive Pride brand family. In 2010, Fuling Cigarette Factory generated 3.417 billion yuan (520 million U.S. dollars) in industrial output value, including 2.443 billion yuan (372 million U.S. dollars) in taxes and profits. The factory is now a backbone manufacturing enterprise contributing to the local finance of Fuling District in Chongqing. Zhang Ming said that the project of relocation and technological transformation is intended to promote the technological level of Fuling Cigarette Factory, promote its drive of improving product quality and reducing the content of harmful substances in cigarette products, enhance the competitiveness of the factory, strive to upgrade its technology and equipment, introduce advanced information technology, energy conservation technology and emission reduction technology, and build Fuling Cigarette Factory into an advanced tobacco manufacturing enterprise of China's tobacco industry.
