Star Patent Appeal Set for January

Star Scientific said yesterday that oral arguments in its appeal of a patent infringement verdict had been docketed for January 11 by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Star has appealed the June 2009 verdict that resulted from the jury trial of its patent infringement lawsuit against RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co in the US District Court for Maryland. A three-judge panel will review the parties' written briefs and hear oral arguments, and will issue its ruling on the appeal thereafter. Star said it looked forward to this opportunity and continued to believe that ultimately it would be successful in the judicial process. Enditem
