Profitable First Half for Bulgartabac

Bulgartabac's net profit for the first half of this year, at BGN7.5 million, was up by 166 per cent on that of the first half of 2009, according to a Novinite story. The company attributed the increase to a rise in exports, which were up by 56 per cent in respect of volume and by 80 per cent in respect of value, and to a reduction in costs. Exports were said to have accounted for five-sixths of Bulgartabac's production. The company's sales of 6,736 billion cigarettes during the first half of 2010 brought in income of BGN123 million. But its domestic market share, at 36 per cent, was down from 50 per cent during 2009 and 90 per cent during 2007. Last year, Bulgartabac sold its cigarette factories at Plovdiv and Stara Zagora, and now has two production facilities, one at Blagoevgrad and one at Sofia. Enditem
