Kingdom of Tobacco Fulfills Cigarette Purchase Quotas for July-December Source from: TobaccoChina Online 07/05/2010 Southwest China's Yunnan Province - the largest tobacco-producing region in China known as the kingdom of tobacco - fulfilled its quotas for the purchase of cigarette products from other Chinese regions in the national-level collective transaction of cigarettes for delivery in the second half of 2010, which was operated on June 17-25.
In the weeklong collective transaction, the prefecture- and city-level tobacco companies in Yunnan signed agreements with 20 tobacco companies from other Chinese regions on the purchase of 34.45 billion cigarettes (689,000 cases), fulfilling 95.3 percent of the cigarette purchase quotas of 36.15 billion cigarettes (723,000 cases) issued by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) for Yunnan Province for delivery in the second half of the year - 27.95 billion non-low-grade cigarettes (559,000 cases), or 99.8 percent of the quota of 28 billion cigarettes (560,000 cases) issued by the State, and 6.5 billion low-grade cigarettes (130,000 cases), or 79.8 percent of the quota of 8.15 cigarettes (163,000 cases) issued by the STMA.
The cigarette purchase quotas issued by the STMA for Yunnan Province this time seriously fall short of the orders taken by the prefecture- and city-level tobacco companies for cigarette purchase from other Chinese regions prior to the collective transaction, with the total quotas down 1.6 billion cigarettes (32,000 cases). Specifically, the quota for the purchase of non-low-grade cigarettes falls short of the relevant orders by 4.25 billion cigarettes (85,000 cases), but the quota for the purchase of low-grade cigarettes exceeds the relevant orders by 2.65 billion cigarettes (53,000 cases).
