After the launch of the Davidoff Millennium Blend series ten years ago and exactly 20 years after introducing the first Dominican Davidoff Cigars, Davidoff is bringing another new cigar line to the market in June 2010. The "Puro d'Oro". It is the first Davidoff series with a tobacco blend and wrapper sourced exclusively from the Dominican Republic.

After many years of development work and with the passion of an artist, Hendrik Kelner - renowned tobacco expert and local Davidoff manager in the Dominican Republic - has now perfected a wrapper for the "Puro d'Oro" range which is only grown in a very specific area of Yamasá in the southern part of the island: the Davidoff YamasáTM wrapper. This exclusive wrapper thrives in tobacco fields with red earth, rich in important minerals, providing a unique aromatic experience.
After harvest, the "Puro d'Oro" wrappers undergo a drying, fermentation and storage process that is labour-intensive and lasts several years. The fermentation of this new kind of series gives them their dark colour and the slightly rustic texture with an oily sheen. The binder leafs and fillers of the "Puro d'Oro" consist of a mixture of premium tobaccos matured for several years, all exclusively from the Dominican Republic. Combining them with the Davidoff YamasáTM wrappers produces a powerful, highly aromatic blend for smoking pleasure with notes of coffee and spices in a long, enjoyable finish.
The "Puro d'Oro" will be launched in four formats: "Deliciosos", "Magnificos", "Notables" and "Sublimes" with tobacco blends varying from "medium" to "full bodied". They will also captivate the smoker with an intensive, balanced flavour and a spicy aroma. The head with a pigtail gives the "Puro d'Oro" cigars a characteristic of earlier formats such as the Davidoff "No. 1" and "No. 2", launched in 1967. And the name of the format is embossed on a gold band at the foot of the cigar. In tribute to Davidoff’s original way of packaging cigars in the 1940s, they will be bundled in batches of 25, elegantly tied with a silk ribbon and packed in a paper covered box. On the occasion of this launch Davidoff also offers a “Puro d’Oro” Collection containing one cigar of each format.
