Non-compliant Cigarettes Destroyed

Philip Morris has been forced to destroy 20 million cigarettes following the introduction of a law requiring that all cigarettes sold in Finland are "self-extinguishing", according to a Turun Sanomat story on YLE.fi. The story did not explain how PM had been left with a relatively large number of apparently non-conforming cigarettes after the April 1 deadline for the new requirement. Discarded cigarettes are said to be the most common cause of fatal fires in Finland and the authorities believe the self-extinguishing cigarettes could prevent between 15 and 20 fire-related deaths every year.
