Largest Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop Under Construction in Southwest China Source from: TobaccoChina Online 05/17/2010 The Cangbao Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop in Songyan Township of Yuqing County in southwest China's Guizhou Province - the largest leaf tobacco curing workshop so far in China - is under busy construction, with its principal part already built, and with its logistic and service facilities being finalized.
The construction of the Cangbao Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop was approved by the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) - the regulator of China's tobacco industry.
With a total investment of 13 million yuan (1.86 million U.S. dollars), the Cangbao Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop covers a floor area of 65 mu (4.3 hectares) and consists of 200 integral leaf tobacco curing barns, together with support facilities for leaf tobacco grading, storage and vocational training of curing technicians.
When its construction is completed, the Cangbao Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop will be used to centrally cure leaf tobacco harvested from the 10,000 mu (666.7 hectares) of tobacco grown by three tobacco-producing villages in Songyan Township including the famous Youli Village, to realize integration of leaf tobacco harvest, curing and allocation in the region.
The construction of the Cangbao Leaf Tobacco Curing Workshop was started in March 2009. The construction of its principal part was completed in 2009, and the facilities in the principal part have already been put into operation for leaf tobacco curing.
It was reported that Yuqing County is one of the three counties designated by the STMA to promote the development of a modern tobacco agriculture on a national level. Therefore, Yuqing County has always taken a lead in the construction of infrastructure facilities for leaf tobacco production in China.
So far, Yuqing County has had three centralized leaf tobacco curing workshops covering 25,000 mu (1,666.7 hectares) of tobacco. Enditem
